Middlesex County Warden’s Statement on Norbec, New Insulated Metal Panel Plant

MIDDLESEX COUNTY: On September 7, 2023, Warden Cathy Burghardt-Jesson issued the following statement regarding Norbec, and its inception of a 156,000-square-foot facility in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc.

“Today, we gather on a remarkable occasion that signifies not just progress but a testament to innovation, resilience, and partnership. We welcome Norbec, a leading Quebec-based manufacturer of insulated metal panels, to our Middlesex County family. With a robust investment of $45 million, we see the inception of a state-of-the-art 156,000-square-foot facility right here in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc, as a testament to our County’s economic vitality, promise, and potential.

Steel, historically symbolic of strength, is undergoing a transformation. Through Norbec's ingenuity, this metal, combined with insulation, represents a blend of durability and environmentally friendly practices. As President Jan Lembregts rightly points out, the increasing demand for these insulated metal panels can be attributed to their superior insulation values, unparalleled energy efficiency, and swiftness in installation. At a time when the construction sector is experiencing unprecedented demand, Norbec offers a timely, top-quality, and sustainable solution.

We understand that site selection for a project of this magnitude is both competitive and complex.  It was, therefore, the absolute pleasure of the County’s Economic Development team to host Norbec and their consultants during the site selection process. Providing not only a site tour, but introducing the executive team to our provincial and municipal colleagues, as well as local stakeholders in transportation, utilities, and employment services, was key to showcasing the collaborative approach that our County takes in facilitating economic development. I know that I speak on behalf of our Director of Economic Development, Cara Finn who led the site selection consultation, in saying that Norbec’s choice to establish here affirms Middlesex County’s strategic importance in the Ontario market and its competitive advantage when it comes to doing business here in Canada and the United States.

As we commemorate the official groundbreaking ceremony today, we eagerly await the summer of 2024 when these lands will be alive with innovation, efficiency, and productivity. With the establishment of this facility, 70 highly-skilled job opportunities will emerge, casting a bright light on our region’s economic future and further confirming the County’s growth of nearly 10% over the past 5 years.

To President Jan Lembregts and the entire Norbec team: Your investment in Middlesex County is not just an investment in land and machinery; it’s an investment in our community, our shared values, our people, and our collective future. Welcome to Middlesex; may our journey together be as enduring and impactful as the products that you produce.”
