Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement

The Canada-Wide Early Years and Child Care Agreement is a historic, transformational investment in licensed child care, making child care more affordable for families.

This is very good news for families with children under 6 years of age in a participating licensed child care. The agreement promises a fee reduction of 25% as of April 1 with a further 25% fee reduction by the end of 2022.

Licensed child care operators interested in participating in the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement can apply with the County of Middlesex. If your licensed child care provider is approved as a participant in the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, they will let you know.

The application and approval process for child care providers is expected to take a few months to complete. For families at participating child cares, fee refunds will be issued retroactive to April 1, 2022. We thank you for your understanding.

If your licensed child care provider chooses not to participate in the agreement, they must let you know.

Please refer to this Letter for Parents on behalf of the County of Middlesex that outlines the status of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement process.

The focus on affordability is great news for families. At the same time, the longer term vision for the agreement goes beyond affordability to include quality, accessibility, inclusivity, and workforce support as vital components of a healthy child care and early years system in Ontario.
