Middlesex County Council Meeting Highlights – January 16, 2024

Upcoming Changes to Police Services Boards

The Committee of the Whole heard from representatives of the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards (OAPSB) on the Community Safety and Policing Act, which comes into force on April 1, 2024. Upcoming changes in legislation will significantly impact the structure of Police Services Boards across the province including Middlesex County. Police Services Boards govern police within their jurisdictions primarily by establishing priorities, objectives, and policies for police services in their community and monitoring performance of their police services and its leaders. Council Awards Tender for the Waubuno Creek Bridge Superstructure Replacement

County Council approved a recommendation to award the Waubuno Creek Bridge Superstructure Replacement Tender to McLean Taylor Construction Limited in the amount of $2,223,642.92 before taxes. The County received a total of eight submissions. The Waubuno Creek Bridge is situated on County Road 27 in the Municipality of Thames Centre, and the existing bridge dates to 1957. The Waubuno Bridge replacement project aligns with Middlesex County’s asset management strategy for bridge rehabilitation. Construction is scheduled to commence on or after June 17, 2024, with completion targeted by December 20, 2024.

Past Warden Burghardt-Jesson shares activity for end of term

County Council received an update from Past Warden Burghardt-Jesson, summarizing her activities in the role of Warden from October 2023 until the end of her term. The Warden's Activity Report highlights the Warden's government and community relations activities, achievements, projects, and engagements on behalf of Middlesex County. During this reporting period, the Warden engaged in a diverse set of activities, including meetings with elected representatives, local Indigenous communities, the Western Ontario Warden’s Caucus (WOWC), and London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). The Warden actively participated in internal communication and planning meetings with County staff, the CAO, and committees. For more information, see the Middlesex County Warden’s Activity Report.

Recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at the January 16, 2024 meeting will be considered by County Council at its next regular meeting on February 13, 2024. The Legislative Services Department maintains the official record for all County government proceedings.
