Middlesex County Council Meeting Highlights – March 12, 2024

2024 Middlesex County Budget Presentation

County Council received a presentation on the 2024 budget based on recommendations from the Budget Committee. The 2024 Budget reflects the County’s commitment to making appropriate investments in the core services that residents rely on, while also considering the reality that taxpayers are facing increased costs of living from provincial and federal policy decisions. The 2024 Budget highlights strategic investments in core service areas including Social Services, Middlesex-London Paramedic Service, Strathmere Lodge, Planning and Woodlots, Middlesex County Library, Economic Development, Middlesex County Connect and Administration. Staff were directed to prepare a by-law to adopt the 2024 Budget, as amended, at the March 26, 2024, meeting of County Council. County Council supports AMO’s call for a provincial Social and Economic Prosperity Review

Middlesex County Council endorsed the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s (AMO) call to the Premier for a comprehensive social and economic prosperity review, to promote the stability and sustainability of municipal finances across Ontario. Middlesex County to Acknowledge International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Further to the City of London’s announcement that the City would be issuing a proclamation on March 21, 2024 in recognition of the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, County Council requested that a Warden’s Statement be issued in recognition and support of the City’s proclamation. Employment Service Transformation – A Look into Available Employment Services in Middlesex County

The Committee of the Whole received a delegation from representatives of London Regional Employment Services and Community Employment Choices in partnership with the County of Middlesex on the available employment services in Middlesex County. The presentation highlighted changes to the provincial employment services policies, the impact to employment services in Middlesex County and the available resources for residents in Middlesex County. Middlesex County announces Launch of New Middlesex County Connect Bus Route

Further to the approval of additional funding received through the Community Transportation Grant Program, Middlesex County staff announced a new inter-community transit route, which will connect Dorchester to London and St. Thomas, and is scheduled to begin operations on Monday, April 8, 2024. This new route underscores Middlesex County’s commitment to promoting connectivity and convenience, marking a significant milestone in improving regional connectivity and accessibility for Middlesex County residents.
