International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

MIDDLESEX COUNTY: on March 12, 2024, Warden Aina DeViet issued the following statement regarding the City of London’s Proclamation in recognition of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21st.

It was announced that City of London will be issuing a proclamation on March 21st in recognition of United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. As Warden of Middlesex County and on behalf of Middlesex County Council, we believe it is imperative to stand in solidarity with our neighbours on this vital issue. We give our full recognition and support of the City’s proclamation and the importance of recognizing the principles of equity and standing up to racism.

Middlesex County has become an engaged partner with the London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership (LMLIP). LMLIP is a community collaborative initiative funded by Refugees, Immigration and Citizenship Canada since 2009, to facilitate the successful integration of immigrants in our region. Middlesex County had the pleasure of being a part of the Annual London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership—All Are Welcome Event.  The theme for the event was “Same struggle, different differences: Living together respectfully as a community,” and centred on the topic of intersectionality.

Middlesex County remains committed to fostering an environment where every individual is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of race or ethnicity alongside working together with the City and other community partners to uphold the values of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The principles of equity and the fight against racism are fundamental to the fabric of our society. Middlesex County proudly aligns itself with these principles and acknowledges the importance of actively combatting racial discrimination in all its forms.
