Public engagement informing new Library Facility Master Plan

Middlesex County Library Board received a presentation outlining how public engagement will inform the development of a new Facility Master Plan, a long-range strategy aimed at guiding modernization efforts and responding to evolving community needs.

The plan will help determine how and where the library system invests in its spaces over the next 15 years, drawing on public input, staff consultations, and community analysis. The plan will help staff meet the needs of a growing County population and modernize as a multi-use community hub offering technology, creative spaces, and programming beyond traditional book lending.

Public engagement activities include a public survey, open houses, and accepting written comments. Feedback will be accepted until July 5, 2026. Read the Library Facility Master Plan workshop presentation for more information.

Summer at the Library 2026

Middlesex County Library Board received an overview of the 2026 “Summer at the Library” program, a system-wide initiative aimed at promoting reading and engagement for all age groups. The program includes tailored activities for young children, older kids, teens, and adults, encouraging participants to read regularly, attend Library programs and complete themed challenges. Youth components feature reading trackers, activity booklets, and incentives such as prize draws, while teens can take part in “Library Quest,” completing adventure-style challenges tied to reading and exploration. Adults are also encouraged to participate through a reading log and ballot system promoting consistent reading habits.

The program aims to help prevent summer learning loss, foster literacy, and build community connections through both in-branch and outdoor activities, including storytelling trails and digital resources. For more information, read the Summer at the Library 2026 report

Library Board proposes updates User Fees and Charges By-law

Middlesex County Library Board approved By-law #56 updating user fees and services charges at the Library. Changes include removing fax charges due to a shift to low-cost internet-based services, eliminating overdue fines through a one-year trial beginning in June 2026, and revising replacement fees for lost or damaged materials to include a standard processing cost. The plan also introduces a new category for miscellaneous collection items, such as technology and activity kits, which may carry higher replacement fees. Read the User Fees and Charges By-Law report for more information.
