Beaver Activity

Beaver colony establishment and dam creation in forests, waterways, drains, etc. cause flooding and drastically alter forest ecosystems. This shifts large portions of forest away from their successional paths and these areas are then characterized by standing deadwood, permanent open water, large volumes of coarse woody debris, and invasive species.

An image showing now aquatic grasses and deadwood.

Long term impact of beaver activity, what once was forest floor is now aquatic grasses and deadwood.
