Middlesex County Warden’s Statement on the Second Anniversary of the Afzaal Family Death

MIDDLESEX COUNTY: On June 6, 2023, Warden Cathy Burghardt-Jesson issued the following statement on behalf of County Council and residents of Middlesex County communities regarding the two-year anniversary of the deaths of the Afzaal family, who were killed in a hit-and-run crash while taking a Sunday evening walk in northwest London.

“As we mark the solemn occasion of the tragic loss of the Afzaal Family, we join our neighbours in the City of London to remember and honour the lives that were taken in the senseless act of violence. The County stands in solidarity with the Muslim community and residents of the City of London who continue to bear the profound weight of this tragedy. Today, we not only remember the unimaginable loss, but we also look towards continued healing together as a community and fostering an environment of inclusion, acceptance, and safety for all residents. Middlesex County condemns all forms of hatred, discrimination, and violence, and we remain resolute in our efforts to promote understanding, respect, and compassion among our diverse communities.”
