Middlesex County Council Meeting Highlights – December 12, 2023

Middlesex County Public Works Association Presentation to the 2023 AORS Municipal Public Works Tradeshow Charities

The Middlesex County Public Works Association announced the charitable outcomes of the 2023 AORS Municipal Public Works Tradeshow, which was hosted in Middlesex County in June. The Tradeshow raised over $38,500 in charitable funds, which were allocated to various deserving causes across Middlesex County, including Communities Over Cancer, Middlesex Hospital Alliance, and Toys for Tots who each received $9,500, as well as the Ailsa Craig Food Bank, Salvation Army Strathroy, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul – Glencoe, and Dorchester Food Bank who each received $2,500 to support their invaluable community services. Jarett Hoglund, General Superintendent with Middlesex County and Chair of the Middlesex County Public Works Association, along with Warden Aina DeViet presented the donation cheques to the respective organizations. County Council Celebrates Rainbow Registered Status

Councillor Burghardt-Jesson announced that Middlesex County is officially Rainbow Registered under Canada’s LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), Rainbow Registered Program. This milestone follows the Committee of the Whole's approval on November 7, 2023, directing staff to register the County in the CGLCC – Rainbow Registered Program. This accreditation marks the County as a nationally accredited 2SLGBTQI+ friendly organization. The Director of Economic Development highlighted the significance of this recognition, expressing gratitude to County Council and Middlesex County staff for their dedication throughout the designation process. For Middlesex County, being Rainbow Registered is a commitment to fostering inclusivity within the workplace and the community. This designation not only positions Middlesex County as an inclusive destination but also sets an example for local businesses. Staff confirmed that they would continue to provide updates to Council on initiatives of inclusion and diversity and will actively pursue recommendations to further strengthen the County’s commitment to inclusivity.

Recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at the December 12, 2023 meeting will be considered by County Council at its next regular meeting on January 16, 2024. The Legislative Services Department maintains the official record for all County government proceedings.
