Reporting to the Manager of Recreation and Physiotherapy, the Recreationist works as a member of the care team to promote the highest possible level of physical, social and mental functioning of residents at Strathmere Lodge.
We are hiring for one Recreationist, and this is a temporary, casual, summer positions starting July 1, 2026, until October 31, 2026. Hours of work may vary from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The successful candidates must be available to work weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays, and must be available on short notice for call-in shifts.
Compensation: $25.93 per hour (+13.75% Pay in Lieu of Benefits) (+4% Vacation Pay)
Qualifications
- Currently completed or enrolled in a post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or another related field from a community college or university. Preference may be given to students who have completed at least one year of their program.
- Experience in a long-term care setting an asset.
- Experience supporting seniors, vulnerable persons, recreation programming, leisure activities, camp programming, community programming, or volunteer activities an asset.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assist with recreation and leisure programming for residents under the direction of qualified staff.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills.
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Strathmere Lodge/Middlesex County.
- Completion of TB testing. A 2-step TB skin test must be completed within the last twelve months, or a 1-step TB skin test within the last twelve months will be accepted with proof that a 2-step TB test was previously completed.
- Valid driver’s licence with a driver’s abstract that is clean and free of any infractions.
