County Forests have experienced several significant disturbances that altered species composition and structural diversity. These events have reshaped forest structure, species dynamics, and habitat conditions, underscoring the need for adaptive management and ongoing forest health monitoring.
Through monitoring and management, Middlesex County strives to keep our forests healthy. Monitoring forests allows staying ahead of forest health issues, contributing to research opportunities with collaborators such as the MNR and local Conservation Authorities, and observing the long-term results of our efforts. Managing forests allows the County to retain the healthiest trees in our woods to stay ahead of forest disturbances, maintain biodiversity to respond to climate change, and plan ahead for efforts to ensure long-term sustainability of our forest cover.
