Middlesex County Inter-Community Transit Assessment
The Committee of the Whole received a presentation from Left Turn Right Turn Ltd. (LTRT), outlining a phased plan to improve and expand the inter-community transit system across the region. Public engagement emphasized the need for improved service frequency, greater awareness, and stronger regional integration. The presentation identified inefficiencies in the current fixed-route network and proposed route optimizations, extended service hours, and a centralized transfer hub at Fanshawe College’s London Main Campus. It also recommended launching a county-wide on-demand transit service, supported by strategically located hubs to enhance regional connectivity. For more information, see the Middlesex Inter-Community Transit Assessment presentation.
Good Roads Rural Road Safety Initiative
The Committee of the Whole supported a Good Roads initiative advocating for a five-year, $183 million provincial investment to fund rural safety audits and improvements. While only 17% of Ontarians live in rural areas, these roads account for 55% of all serious collisions in the province. The proposed provincial investment would help rural, northern, and remote municipalities enhance road safety for all. For more information, see the Good Roads Rural Roads Safety Initiative report.
Middlesex Supports 2025-2026
The Middlesex Supports Program received the green light again this year. This program reinvests municipal savings into community programs supporting children and families. In 2024, this program served 96 children and 255 families, with services ranging from swim passes for low-income families to family and credit counselling. A total of $96,900 was approved by the Committee of the Whole for the upcoming year. For more information, see the Middlesex Supports 2025-2026 report.
Population, Housing and Employment Projections
The Committee of the Whole considered updated population, housing, and employment projections to support the County's long-term planning to 2056. The Growth Analysis Update recommended the Medium-High Growth Scenario for population and housing, and the Medium Growth Scenario for employment, reflecting strong anticipated growth driven by net migration and regional pressures. Key trends include a growing and aging population, declining household sizes, and rising demand for a mix of housing types. Employment is forecasted to grow by up to 8,100 jobs. If adopted by Council, these projections will inform the draft amendment to the County Official Plan and support ongoing consultation through the Official Plan Update process. For more information, see the Population, Housing and Employment Projections report.
Recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at the June 24, 2025, meeting will be considered by County Council at its next regular meeting on July 08, 2025. The Legislative Services Department maintains the official record for all County government proceedings.
