Middlesex County introducing new tourism wayfinding signage

The Committee of the Whole received a report outlining how the County is modernizing its tourism signage. The Tourism Wayfinding Strategy 2026 proposes a new sign hierarchy, updated designs aligned with County branding, clearer placement guidelines, and a phased implementation plan. New tourism signage will replace the current “Discover Our Grassroutes” signage program, first introduced in 2013. A new sign design will be developed for the Heritage Trail Program to promote historical landmarks throughout the County. The program will encourage motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians to explore Middlesex County and provide clear, intuitive, and accessible wayfinding. Collaboration between Middlesex County and local municipalities will be key to the program’s success. Workforce Navigator Pilot Project

The Committee of the Whole received a report outlining how the County is establishing a Workforce Navigator position to support employment in Middlesex County. The Workforce Navigator will provide individualized, hands-on support to help connect people with appropriate training, education, and employment opportunities. The Workforce Navigator will support more than a dozen people annually, with a focus on rural residents who face barriers such as limited awareness of services, difficulty navigating multiple organizations, or lack of individualized guidance. The project is especially timely as recent engagement with interest holders revealed that employers report difficulty recruiting qualified candidates, while residents can face barriers in identifying and accessing employment and training opportunities. The province is providing support for the position through the Rural Ontario Development Program. Read the full Workforce Navigator Pilot Project report for more information.

Middlesex County Loan Program supports industrial development in Southwest Middlesex

Council approved additional funding through the Middlesex County Loan Program to support the Glencoe Business and Industrial Park Servicing Project in Southwest Middlesex. The program provides interest-free loans to local municipalities in Middlesex County to support capital improvements to water and sewer infrastructure that bolsters development. In May 2025, County Council approved a loan of $687,500. This week, County Council approved an additional $63,850.50. Once complete, the project will provide full servicing to the industrial park with water, wastewater, stormwater, road, and utility infrastructure. This helps meet a growing demand for smaller, serviced industrial lots to attract new investments and support local business expansion. Middlesex County municipalities establishing Joint Compliance Audit Committee for 2026 municipal election cycle

The Committee of the Whole received an information report regarding the establishment of the Joint Middlesex County 2026 Compliance Audit Committee for the upcoming municipal election cycle. Under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, municipalities must establish a Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee to independently review audit applications regarding election campaign finances and contributions. Following approval by Council for all Local Municipalities, Middlesex County will facilitate the recruitment process.
