Fire Prevention and Education
Fire Prevention, Education and Fire Cause services are provided to all fire departments in Middlesex County by Fire Prevention Officers engaged by the Department of Emergency Services.
If there is a fire in a home smoke alarms are your first line of defense. They give you an early warning that a dangerous condition is present and could give your family the extra time to escape. It is mandatory to have a smoke alarm on each floor of your home. There are many types of smoke alarms, each with different features. Alarms can be electrically connected, battery powered or a combination of both. All smoke alarms sold in Canada must meet performance standards set out by the Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC). The Middlesex County Fire Prevention Officers work hand in hand with local fire departments to initiate smoke detector awareness in our community.
Public Education is an extremely important method to improve awareness and to teach life saving and injury prevention skills to the community in which we live. The Middlesex County Fire Prevention Officers are involved in life & fire safety and injury prevention in schools, community groups, local businesses, long term care facilities, senior's residences and hospitals. Public Fire and Life Safety Programs include, but are not limited to:
- Seniors Programs
- Arson Prevention Programs – Children
- Risk Watch Programs
- Smoke Alarm Programs
- Emergency Evacuations
- Lifts & Carries
- Portable Fire Extinguisher Training.
