Licensed Child Care Affordability Pilot

The Licensed Child Care Affordability Pilot aims to improve affordability, quality, and access to licensed child care for families with children 0-4 years of age in London and Middlesex County.

The one-time Pilot, running from June 1- December 31, 2018 supports families and child care providers within licensed centers and home based child care systems.

Families that pay all, or some of their child care fees will save up to $7.00 per day, per child, 0-4 years of age, beginning June until December 2018.

Funding for the Licensed Child Care Affordability Pilot has been made available by the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the up to $7.00/day licensed child care savings?

Families that pay all, or some of their child care fees, will save up to $7.00 per day, per child, 0-4 years of age, in licensed child care from June 1to December 31, 2018.

How much will I save?

A full fee paying family would get $7 per day, per child, ages 0-4 years.  A family accessing Fee Subsidy and also paying a Daily Parent Fee (DPF) would get up to $7 per day per eligible child.  E.g. If the family’s DPF was $4.10 per day they would not have to pay the DPF for that child.  If the family had a DPF of $10 per day they would only have to pay a $3 DPF.  Families in receipt of 100% Fee Subsidy would not receive these savings as they are not paying out of pocket any money for their child care.

How long will I get the savings for?

From June 1 to December 31, 2018 - as long as the family continues to pay for all or a portion of licensed child care fees for any child who is not of age to attend publicly funded elementary school.

If I attend part time only will I still be eligible?

Yes - regardless of the model of care, a family with a child, ages 0-4 years of age, will be eligible for up to $7.00 per day, per child.

How will this affect my tax receipt for child care fees?

Child Care Tax receipts should only reflect fees paid by the family.

Is my child who is JK age but staying in licensed child care still eligible?

No. The Licensed Child Care Affordability Pilot is only available for a child not eligible to attend publicly funded elementary school.

Are there any geographical limitations ? (i.e. living outside of London or Middlesex County but attending licensed child care in London or Middlesex)

No.  If a family attends a licensed child care centre in London or Middlesex County they are eligible for the 2018 Licensed Child Care Affordability Pilot.

Am I eligible for PD days if my child returns to the child care?

No.  The Licensed Child Care Affordability Pilot is only available for a child not eligible to attend publicly funded elementary school.

What if my child attends 2 separate programs in any given day with the same provider (i.e. split shift, PHDC or two nursery school programs)?

Each child is only eligible for up to $7 savings per day
